Artist: The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster

Profile

In 2002 The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster emerged from the unseen primeval muck running under the surface of Brighton to record one of the most dementedly brilliant gothic punk/rockabilly albums the place has ever produced. Clocking in at just 28chk minutes, Horse of the Dog is a race down the dark side of the road in a hot-rodded hearse, barely under the control of the five young monsters at the wheel.
Their name - Eighties for short - wasn't the only odd aspect of these young punks. They had apparently unconsciously absorbed the Doors, Cramps, Pixies, Stooges and Elvis in spirit and style as well as sound, and were consequently, if unexpectedly, the best rock'n'roll band ever. Following the release of their second album, The Royal Society, however, they have drifted towards becoming an easily identifiable gothic rock act.

Live, they can be unpredictable - at times almost unbearably exciting, but following the departure of lead guitarist Andy Huxley, now of Vile Imbeciles, they have lost a degree of their imperious mystique. Still certainly one of the best bands in Brighton, Eighties' light has already burned very, very brightly.
